Loving Jesus should be second nature for those of us who are Christians.  How could we not love someone who has done so much for us, including sacrificing His life so that we might live.

2 Corinthians 8:9 (ESV)
9  For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Have you ever heard of such giving as this?  The problem is there is no way we can completely comprehend just how rich Jesus was in heaven; thus, how can we understand the depths of His sacrifice?  The truth is, we cannot, but it is not necessary to do so.  We can, without completely realizing the depths of His humiliation, still appreciate the enormous sacrifice He made for us, and love Him for it.  One of the great passages that describes just what Jesus did for us is Philippians 2:5-8.

Philippians 2:6-8 (NIV)
6  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7  rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

How could we not love someone who made Himself nothing by becoming a mortal man and dying on a cross for us?  And, just like with the Father, we demonstrate that we truly love Him by keeping His commandments.

 John 14:15 (ESV)
15  “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Jesus did not say we might keep His commandments if we love Him, He said we will.  That is a definitive statement by our Lord and Master that can never be modified, altered, or successfully denied.  Jesus simply stated an irreversible fact—if we love him, we will keep His commandments.

Can you think of any reason not to love Jesus?  He not only made the supreme sacrifice to give us a chance at eternal life, but He also continues to work on our behalf as our divine advocate.

1 John 2:1 (ESV)
1  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Yes, Jesus should be one of the main objects of our affection in life.  He not only has done (and continues to do) so much for us, He is simply a loveable person.  He is kind and compassionate,  honest and genuine, and a man of integrity who always tells the truth and, who, therefore, can be trusted in all things.  He is, simply put, the best friend we could ever have.  Remember,  “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”  Let us love Him like we know this to be true.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
