The greatness of God is unmatchable. While we cannot comprehend the breadth of His greatness (Ephesians 3:20), He has given us a demonstration of it that we can clearly see.
Romans 1:20 (ESV)
20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made…
When we look at the massive universe that God has created, we see a small example of His power and strength (Psalm 19:1-6). And, when we realize that all it took for God to create the heavens and the earth was for Him to speak, we are even more impressed.
Psalm 33:6 (ESV)
6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
Unless you take the absurd position that the universe was produced by accident, the greatness of God is undeniable. The wonderful truth, for those of us who are Christians, is that we actually have access to this great God.
Ephesians 2:17-18 (ESV)
17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
It is a great blessing that through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we can at any time draw near to God. The power of God is such that He can manage the entire universe and still have time for every one of His children when they are in need. I came across this truth illustrated in the following way:
“A little boy bruised his knee and needed his Daddy to fix it up. With tears streaming down his face, he ran to see his Daddy. Seeing him coming, the [secretary] quickly opened the massive doors and let him into his Daddy’s office. His father was busy managing his business and was surrounded by his assistants. But amid all of this, the little boy ran up to his father and climbed onto his waiting lap. What do you think his Daddy did? Push his son aside and have him removed from the room? No! Daddy’s first response was ‘where does it hurt and how can I make it better?’” (Practical Illustrations – Volume 9: Galatians-Colossians).
This is a good picture of our access to our heavenly Father. He is never too busy to attend to our needs. Any day of the week, any time of the hour, we can access God, and we can do it with confidence.
Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
How often do you take advantage of your access to the Almighty God, who just happens to be our Father? Let us take advantage of this unbelievable blessing. When we rush into His office in need of His help, He will lift us up, but He will not ask us, “where does it hurt and how can I make it better,“ for He already knows the answer.
As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
