Christians worship God. We are not forced to do it. We do not worship Him merely out of a sense of obligation. We worship God because we adore Him. We adore Him because we know who He is and all that He has done for us, culminating with the sacrifice of His one and only Son so that we could be saved from sin.
We worship God because He is our Creator. God has given us life and all the blessings that go along with it. He has placed us in a magnificent world that, even with it now being full of sin, is filled with awe-inspiring sites, full of glories that take our breath away. This world that God created is perfectly suited to sustain life because He made it just for us. He created us with bodies fit for this world, bodies that are so complex and amazing that the greatest minds in the world cannot figure out them that allow us to enjoy the pleasures of life. It is no wonder David praised God (a form of worship) because we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
We worship God because His power passes our understanding. David acknowledged this in several of his Psalms. Here is an example:
Psalm 147:5 (ESV)
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
We worship God because He loves us with an unequaled and unsurpassable love that never fails. I want you to especially note that last part. God’s love never fails. We know a little about how to love because God created us with the capacity to love. But God’s love is different. His love never fails, and it will never end. One of the great Psalms in the Bible is Psalm 136. It contains 26 verses and every one of them ends with the same refrain — “For his steadfast love endures forever.” Before you dose off for the night, take a minute to read that Psalm, and be thankful.
Any real Christian will worship God regularly, and do so gladly. One of the great disappointments of modern-day Christianity is how difficult it is to get some, who profess to be Christians, to worship God consistently. The truth is, those who have to be constantly pushed and prodded into coming to a worship service commanded by God are not really Christians at all. The Lord’s day should be the highlight of our week. Our attitude should be that expressed by David.
Psalm 42:1-4 (NKJV)
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Are you a Christian? If so, you look forward to appearing before God to worship Him, and you take advantage of every opportunity to do so.
As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
